The CDC has implemented enhanced public health measures and recommendations for travelers arriving from areas affected by the 2026 Ebola outbreak.
The geographic areas currently affected by the outbreak are the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and South Sudan.
Traveler Screening
- Enhanced entry screening at selected U.S. airports
- Collection of traveler contact information
- Public health risk assessments
- Active symptom monitoring for some travelers
Additional travel restrictions apply to certain non-U.S. travelers.
Protective Measures
Incoming travelers may be asked to:
- Monitor themselves daily for symptoms for 21 days after leaving an affected area
- Check temperature twice daily
- Report symptoms immediately to public health officials
- Limit certain activities if determined to be at increased risk
If Symptoms Develop
Anyone who develops symptoms consistent with Ebola within 21 days of travel to an affected area should:
- Immediately isolate from others.
- Contact the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) at 601‑576‑7725, M– F/8am – 5pm; 601‑576‑7400, after hours, weekends, holidays before seeking care.
- Inform MSDH of recent travel history.
This guidance may change as the outbreak continues.
