Since July 1, 1962, the State of Mississippi has served as an Agreement State with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), assuming responsibility for the licensing, regulation, and inspection of radioactive materials not under federal jurisdiction.
Today the Division of Radiological Health oversees approximately 300 active radioactive material licenses across the state, ensuring the safe use of these materials in medicine, industry, research, and education while protecting the health and safety of Mississippi's citizens.
