Background
Prior to joining the Department of Health in 2022, Dr. Atehortua De la Peña was an assistant professor in the Department of Environmental and Behavioral Health at Jackson State University's College of Health Sciences. He is a graduate of the School of Medicine of the University of Cartagena, the Universidad del Norte at Barranquilla, Western Kentucky University, and Texas A&M. He has held post-doctoral fellowships with the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, Utah State University, the Mississippi Center for Clinical and Translational Research, the National Medical Fellowships on Diversity in Clinical Trials Research.
