The Mississippi WISEWOMAN program
(Well-Integrated Screening and Evaluation of Women Across the Nation)
aims to identify women at the highest risk for cardiovascular disease and to improve the delivery of heart disease and stroke prevention services to them.
The main focus of the WISEWOMAN program is blood pressure control through correct technique, health coaching, counseling, healthy behavior support services and lifestyle improvement options.
The Mississippi WISEWOMAN program is available to woman aged 35-64 who participate in the CDC-funded National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) via MSDH's Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention (BCCP) program.

WISEWOMAN uses a team-based care approach that includes the patient and the patient's BCCP provider, nurses, pharmacists and community health workers.
Our participants receive:
- Education on cardiovascular risk factors and how to reduce them
- Risk factor screenings: Blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, and more
- Lifestyle coaching: Eating strategies, physical activity, tobacco cessation
We also provide:
- Clinician tools and resources to help patients regularly measure their blood pressure at home.
- Tools for pharmacists to work with patients to help them take their blood pressure medications as directed.
- Connections to community resources that support healthy lifestyles and healthy behaviors for participants.
Qualifying
- Uninsured, underinsured, or medically underserved Mississippi residents
- 35-64 years of age
- At or below 250% of Federal Poverty Level
- Currently enrolled in the MSDH Breast and Cervical Cancer program
