
Dr. Tami Brooks joined MSDH as Interim Medical Director in 2025 to provide medical oversight across all the agency's program areas.
A pediatrician of nearly 30 years, she began her career as an instructor of pediatrics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she served on the faculty for 24 years. She subsequently served as Medical Director of Starkville Pediatric Extended Care Facility, Medical Director of the Mississippi Division of Medicaid, Chair of State Government Affairs and Advocacy for the American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as continuing her work as a pediatrician at Physicians and Surgeons Clinic in Starkville.
She has been recognized with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Childhood Immunization Champion Award and the University of Mississippi Medical Center's Sorey Award for Outstanding Teacher in Pediatrics.
