Booster Vaccinations
Anyone 5 years old or older may be eligible for one or more COVID-19 vaccine booster doses.
Boosters are especially recommended for those who are 65 or older, or anyone with ongoing medical problems.
MSDH now provides the updated COVID-19 Bivalent booster shot to provide better protection and boost immunity. The updated booster shot includes protection again currently circulating COVID-19 variant strains Omicron BA.4 and BA.5.
Individuals 5 years and older are eligible for the newer bivalent booster shot if it's been at least two months since completion of the primary series of COVID-19 vaccine or its been at least two months since your last booster shot.
Getting a Booster Dose

Third (Additional) Vaccine Doses
A third dose of COVID-19 vaccine can provide added protection if you have a medical condition that affects your immune system and you are at high risk for developing more serious illness from COVID-19.
Third vaccine doses are available only for those who received Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, and whose last shot was at least 28 days ago.
Third vaccine doses are available for those six months and older who have a weakened immune system.

You can schedule an additional vaccination dose at a county health department or through your doctor or regular health care provider.
