Community Interpreter and Medical Terminology Training

MSDH offers Community Interpreter Training (Medical, Educational and Social Service Interpreting) along with Medical Terminology Training for Interpreters.

Community Interpreter training caters to bilingual individuals seeking to enhance their interpreting skills and extend their knowledge of properly conducting a successful interpreting session. Training is open to all who are fluent in English and at least a second spoken language or American Sign Language (ASL). Participants must meet the following requirements:

Schedule and Fees

This is a 7-day in-person training totaling 48 hours.

  • October 7–10 and 15–17, 2025 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • $375.00 per person for 48 hours of Community Interpreter training and the Medical Terminology course.
  • $350.00 per person for 40 hours of Community Interpreter training only (without Medical Terminology).
  • $100.00 per person for 8 hours of Medical Terminology training only. (Open only to those who have previously completed MSDH's Community Interpreter training.)

Registration fee is waived for MSDH staff.

Scholarship

Two scholarships for the Community Interpreter and Medical Terminology training will be awarded. To be considered for a scholarship, complete the information below.

Volunteer requirement: Scholarship recipients will agree to volunteer their interpreter services for a minimum of 10 hours with a non-profit organization.
