Prevention & Early Treatment of Influenza for the Outpatient Setting
The Mississippi State Department of Health is making this on-line CME course available to all Mississippi physicians interested in seasonal and 2009 H1N1 influenza education. At the conclusion of this CME activity, the learner will be able to:
- Compare mortality curves for the 1918 pandemic to those of other 20th century pandemics
- List 3 groups at high risk for complications of seasonal flu (i.e., groups for whom vaccination is indicated)
- List 3 groups at high risk for complications of H1N1 infections (i.e., groups for whom vaccination is indicated)
- List 3 groups for whom live, attenuated viral vaccines are contraindicated
- List 2 groups at high risk for complications of pneumococcal disease (i.e., groups for whom vaccination is indicated)
- Compare the quality of rapid influenza diagnostic tests (RIDT), PCR, and virus isolation
- CIte one situation in which PCR or virus isolation is indicated
- Cite 2 reasons not to use laboratory tests for influenza in the outpatient setting
